More of the mundane. Yes, a post about a haircut. Life down here isn’t always about restaurants, souvenirs, drinks on the beach, and shopping. Enough people are writing and filming about all that. I sometimes wonder what happens to people who spent months ‘researching’ a move to Mexico by watching Youtube and reading travel blogs when they get hit with the reality of the ‘oh yeah, didn’t think about that’ moment. One day you will look in the mirror and realize you are pretty soon going to look like that capture photo of Saddam Hussein if you don’t go out and get a haircut.
I totally forgot to take a shot. As a photographer you are always used to being on the taking the photo side versus being a subject. And this way I get to stay anonymous, lol. If I get lots of followers people will recognize me and say "hey, you are that guy!"
Moving abroad isn't all about the more fantastical aspects of sipping margaritas on a tropical beach, the every day items is where the real stories that make lasting memories occur. I can take something as mundane as getting a haircut and turn it into an adventure good enough to recount the story to friends at social gatherings at. I enjoy reading recounts such as this much more than the crap you find typically on social media. Partially because you are going through now what I went though back in 2015 so there is some nostalgia there for me (even if the time and location are very different).
As I have tried to elude to at times in my post is to avoid the polished and curated account of things. Everything staged. Every day just perfect. [There's Marko being photographed from behind, with the one foot kicking up in the air at the knee. So magical!] That I will leave to the pretty girls in their hipster hats who travel around with their 'fiancee'.
I am not here to try and gather followers or to monetize my writings (okay, one day I may be willing to accept donations of rolls of film or money toward buying some, lol). I don't want to go around showing all the more affordable prices, and telling people how great the food is. Once again, completely saturated. I can imagine how the local people around this country must feel as they see these people galavanting around with their cameras bragging about the deals - especially with inflation increasing. Bad enough places increase their prices as their popularity increases. I won't be party to that. And these people with their blogs/vlogs become slaves and beholden to them. And I continue to see more places are banning filming in their stores and restaurants. Likely people complaining that when they sit down for a meal there is that person filming and talking to the camera. Did it to themselves. I am long reality; short the fake always happy world.
You left out an important part. Where is the picture of you with the new haircut?
