Lviv - Local Shops

And maybe an outdoor market.

I am a big fan of small local shops. Neighbourhood stores. So far I have only really seen shops from the outside. Right now my language skills hold me back a bit. As well the set up I have where I am renting is not ideal for cooking. But I do intend to venture in at some point and get products from these local merchants.

So this will be an overview and visual post of what local shops can look like. I prefer this way to shopping and living. Sure larger stores have their place, but I would rather have local stores and specialty shops you can just walk to. Cheese from a cheese shop; meat from a meat shop; bread from a baked good store. When they are located close by or close to each other it makes it pretty convenient. You don’t always need everything in one store. I do not miss those gawdy big box supercenters. And they are always the same.

You see this frequently. Just a couple of small shops side by side. On the right a local chain cheese shop. On the left a baked goods store. It is so hard to walk by when everything in the window looks so good.

Sometimes there are just local independent little fruit and vegetable shops. Shop local!

Not a lot of space inside this little building. Just enough space for the owner and her scale. But there is plenty of fresh produce lined all around the store. Easy for locals to come and shop, or for passers-by to pick up some food on their way home.

Sometimes there are longer stretches of small local shops. Here is a section of rather modern looking shops. Often they are specialty stores. Lots of food variety can be had just steps away from each other.

Here is an example of how some of these local shops are supplied. Deliveries are made with fresh and local grown produce. Behind the delivery man is a scale on the ground. Boxes are weighed before they are taken in.

While this next instalment is not necessarily shops, it is where some locals (and likely tourists) do some shopping. This is a weekend market that happens in the city center/Rynok Square. I love going to places like this and likely will spend too much money at these little markets.

Oh you know I will be focused on the bread bakers and the cheese makers. Okay, and anything to do with honey. So sweet - like me.

I hope to have more updates about this aspect to daily living. It is much more in tune to what I value, and how I would like to do things. Might have to stay here a little longer.
